Different topic here... I decided to draw Laura: http://fav.me/d5920k5

I might draw her in her archer's costume but I'm likely going to draw a different version of her first. This different version is going to be used in some comics I'll eventually be drawing...

"But moving back to what Elister said..." Laura continued. "I'm curious about what you consider to be the advantages of this world"

What? No reaction at all to this? And to any of the stuff before that in the same post?

I wasn't feeling muse for elister, so I only wrote a portion with Nikolai. I didn't realize it would be a problem. however, I will not be posting with elister until I feel his voice.

As far as "intro posts" go, this may seem blunt, but I tend to dislike opening trivialities and like skipping to the meat of the manner ;P Two questions to start off;
  • one- Are sign-ups still open? Before someone says "read the title," I have, and I prefer making sure it's actually true, and not an accidental oversight of the powers that be.
  • two- Would you be able to expound a bit more on magic within the RP, as well as the artifacts used as conduits? My initial character of choice resides firmly in the realm of the "swordmage" archetype, so it would be good to know if she's still feasible, or if I should start perusing my roster for another character.

And with that, I apologize for any bruises reading the above may have caused  :D I shall now go work on the mutable details of my character so that she fits within the RP.

Mhm, sign ups are technically open, but the "value" of the character will depend on species. For instance, the species already in play are going to be more important plot wise than any sign ups after them that are the same species. So... We have a zora, a hylian, a kokiri, a rito, a deku scrub, and a human who have important roles. That leaves open gerudo and goron, or something else that would have to be discussed first before being added as a species (if it's not on the species list).

I don't have my notes on me, but the way magic works is that some species have the ability and some don't. Humans don't, but Hylians do, and so on. And depending on how "magical" the species is, depends on how effective certain spells are, or how well they'll work with relics.

Magical artifacts are charged with the magical energy already, and simply need a compatible species to unleash that. Think of Din's Fire, Nayru's Love, etc, as well as the elemental arrows.

If you're going for a gerudo, perhaps, I think swordmage could fit pretty well. I'd have to know more about what you're going for character and species wise to say much more ^^'

You forgot Fairy.

I control a fairy but I remember you saying that she'll not be the main one as I already control the main human character... Or something to that effect.

Hm... I was pondering Sheikah or Hylian, with the first being the more obvious from a character-point. It lends itself to the fact that she's a wanderer, and to the caliber of her skills. While I've not read much of the RP itself, only the most recent posts so far, I don't believe it would pose an issue to the RP itself. Most of the information I've found on the race is that their presence within the world had slowly dwindled down to supposedly few/none, but no concrete mention is given whether they died out or simply withdrew from active participation in events.  Gerudo may work as well, though I feel Sheikah would give me more to work with.
Character-wise, it's hard to accurately convey, as my characters typically evolve as they progress. The best I can give is that she's a wandering mercenary of sorts, fixing problems as she encounters them, whether it be problematic monsters or an extra hand building a barn in a village. Most of all, just trying to find a place to belong.

Just remember! We have a Goron character already. Can't believe I forgot to mention that...

As for Sheikahs... I remember someone asking that before and Ice saying no...

Yeah, I didn't mention your fairy Abadlex as she wasn't the main one lol.

Sheikah isn't a species/race in this RP, but more like a job class. If you wanted to, you could have a gerudo as your species, who chose to have a job as a sheikah/mercenary. I'd be okay with that if you wanted to go that route.

That would make a bit more sense actually, as Sheikahs sound more like the Secret Service than a race. So yea, that's what I'll do, so I should have it finished fairly soon.  :D

edit: Alright, so 'soon' was a bit of an understatement. Had a slight problem that required threatening jewelry to fix.
-----------------

If anything needs to be tweaked at all, let me know and I'll get to it quickly.

Spoiler for Verana Cortez:
Name – Verana Cortez

Age – 28

Sex – Female

Species - Gerudo

Personality – While Verana is typically reserved and quiet, she is mild-mannered to a large degree when interacting with others, she does have less patience than can be desired. She is quick to temper when that patience breaks, or something she cherishes is being threatened. In a heated battle, she is a changed person, revelling in the thrill of the fight, exuberant and playful, even singing on occasion. In the end, Verana is someone who would do what it takes to keep others safe.

Appearance –  Standing a handspan over five feet, Verana is not much of an imposing character. Decidedly athletic from decades of training, physical and otherwise, there is not much about her left that could be labeled as "soft." Her burgundy hair is kept short, no longer than her shoulder, with bronze highlights strikingly similar in color to her tanned skin. Along both forearms there is a criss-cross of fine scars- trophies from her years of training, and reminders. Her choices in clothing are deftly described as being strange. Comprising of a full corset, ankle-length skirt with a full-length slit and ties on the right hip, and a stiff-necked shoulder wrap, her crimson-colored outfit is made of several materials that offer both modest strength and freedom of movement. (outfit | hairstyle )

Around both ankles and wrists are wide bands of silver & iron shaped like snakes, engraved with Hylian glyphs. Each snake held within it's mouth a faceted gemstone, etched with the sigil of the Sheikah. An additional quirk of the jewelry is that the head of each snake on the bracelets, is nestled just below the palm of her hands so that a closed fist would appear to cradle the snake. The anklets serve no known purpose that she knows of, if they ever did, only the bracelets still held any power, channelling her magic. Rounding out her outfit is a longsword carried in a sheath set for a right-handed draw.

History – Verana has no memory of any single place she could definitely call "Home," having traveled for most of her life. The only place she ever felt familiar with was the village of Kakariko. At the age of 5, she began the basic training of the arts of the Sheikah, both physical and magical. Even at such a young age, she knew she had found her calling. At the age of 12, she was formally initiated into the Sheikah, having demonstrated the necessary devotion and skill required.

Gifted with her longsword and anklet & bracelet set she now wears at her initiation, Verana was set on her lifelong task of continuing her training and putting that training to use. Several months after that day, her mentor discovered her talent for dancing a duet with fire and steel. It led to many more years of training that honed her abilities to a fine edge.

Once Verana turned 20, she graduated from an initiate to a full-fledged member. As a parting gift from her mentor, she received a horse, named Ignis and with a matching temper, to aid in her travels around the regions surrounding Hyrule. And so she began her journeys, traveling place to place and solving problems as she encountered them. As a personal philosophy, she never accepted money for her efforts, accepting only supplies and a bed for a night or two- things that she'd have bought with the money anyways. Her philosophy however, had soon begun to strain her finances. It also led her to an interesting choice of action: dancing as entertainment.

It was not a conventional use of her training, but the battle dances she had learned were enough to attract the attentions of a variety of innkeepers, bartering room and board in exchange for her dancing. It was the perfect mix of income, information, and exercise to keep in form. It also led to her eventual participation in the annual Festivals in Hyrule. Thus began her cycles around Hyrule that began and ended with the Festival.

Special Abilities – With respects to her initial training, and subsequent upkeep of those skills, Verana is fairly skilled with both the longsword and fire magic. The last, however, only has the same reach as her longsword, and is about as strong, comparatively speaking, but makes up for it in the speed and nature of the magic. When actively using her magic, the gemstones within the mouths of the snakes glow with the power as they grow to form orbs within her palms. With the orbs she can create streamers of fire and use them in much the same way that a dancer would use ribbons. Out of habit she focuses her magic within her left hand, wielding the longsword in her right hand, though she has proven ambidextrous via training. With the longsword, she prefers to use her speed and flexibility to inflict wounds that are painful, but not singularly fatal, until her opponent has weakened enough that there is minimal risk.

Inventory –
*Longsword & sheath, double-edged blade, visibly old but well cared for.
*Pouch of various tools for self-sufficient gear care; IE leather tools, whetstones & grindstones.
*550 Rupees.
*Twin bracelets & anklets, Sheikah magic relics.
*Bad-tempered Horse.

What does Ice like?
    Catastrophically
    Adorable
    Tyrants

aka C.A.T.S.

Role Play Sample –

"You what?" Disbelief. There was no other way to describe what she felt right now. Verana stared at the man sitting before her for a few more seconds, watching another human bandage his bloody hand in cloth. "You have got to either be extremely desparate or extremely stupid to have attempted stealing Ignis." A thoughtful expression as a hiccup sent the sour smell of alcohol her way. "Or extremely drunk. So? What made you decide to undertake this obviously important task?"

It took a moment for the man to focus enough to process what she said, and another before he was able to form a response. "I was no' stellin ye 'orse, luddy. It was...i' was... a wee wager wit a clo' fend o mine."

Pinching the bridge of her nose as she deciphered what was said to her, she could only guess at the reasons behind it. Thankfully, she was spared from having to keep prodding the drunk man for answers as the innkeeper appeared with a wry grin. The woman was familiar with the temperament of Verana's horse- they would stay the nights at least once a month at this particular inn.

"I happened to overhear their discussion, dear. It was simply male egos at work, and Ignis did his job just fine. Let the drunkard go about his inconsequential business and we can get back to the important business of our meals." With a gentle smile to Verana, the innkeeper turned around and vanished back into the common room. Looking at the fool before her with no small measure of pity, she returned to the common room as well, wondering if it would have been better to have let Ignis chomp a few fingers.

As she sat at the bar, a plate of food was set before her. As she began eating, she shot a few nervous glances at the innkeeper before speaking in a quiet voice. "I won't be able to dance tonight, I'll be leaving soon for the Festival."

"So soon? It wont even start for a few days after you get there." It wasnt hard to pick out the note of surprise in the innkeeper's voice, as well as disappointment.

"Mm... I plan on staking out the claim on my stage early this year. I want to try and claim part of the central plaza this time." Her eager smile was contagious, and the innkeeper smiled conspiratorially. And I have messages that need to be delivered... The sad thought weighed heavily on her, though she didnt let it show, despite several of those messages containing news that was important to her as well.

Mother...

I apologize for not having a more current image to provide. Having recently upgraded my OS decided to corrupt nearly everything I had backed up, including her most recently progressed image. So, unfortunately, the next time I share an image of her, it probably wont have the same hairstyle.  :( (and yes, it'll remain faceless until I've gotten nearly everything else done >_< I'm leaving the mental torture for last)

I hadn't realized you'd edited this post with your SU or I'd have replied sooner!

I think the character works well. Having another horse will be good to have the wagon pulled with a full load of people.

The magic use should be good too. Your character can help train the others as they learn their magical abilities.

If you haven't already, you should read the last few pages of the RP to see where we're at. Once you've done that, we can figure out how to bring you into the game.
